that. jay carney, the white house press secretary was asked about this during a briefing a short time ago. and he wouldn't rule out that there was a connection. i think the reason a lot of people are asking is the bombings happened about 3:00 p.m. on monday, these letters were received on tuesday. so if you had to speculate, you would think that perhaps they were sent before the bombing. that's certainly a possibility. now, we don't know exactly when they were sent. so we're still trying to nail down some of the details on that, but if this is not connected to the bombings that happened on monday, then it's possibly a very huge coincidence, wolf. that's why questions are being raised about the timing of this. >> the president and first lady we're now told, brianna, will be coming here to boston tomorrow for this 11:00 a.m. eastern interfaith memorial service that will take place. they will honor those who killed the three individuals -- the three individuals who were killed as well as the nearly 200 who were injured, the president going ahead with plans to come to boston. that was ann
jay carney asked about this, said investigators are now conducting more advanced testing on the content of these letters. here is carney. >> the f.b.i. has a lead for determine building a suspicious powder is a dangerous substance, such as risin. those take place at accredited facilities and they take a certain amount of time as the f.b.i. has indicated. these procedures are in place. the procedures are effective and in operation now and we are in the midst of that process which the f.b.i. is undertaking at this time. >> bill: what we do know, both letters said to be postmarked in memphis, tennessee. mike emmanuel is live on capitol hill for a very busy day. what more do we know about the letters there, mike? >> bill, fox news has obtained an f.b.i. operations bull finish that ties these two letters together. it says it was determined they were related based on their u.s. government targets, the postmarks and identical language in them. both mailed on the same day, april 8. and both letters signed, quote, i am kc and i approve this message. today on capitol hill, the post

in washington. >> reporter: the white house here gave a brief statement, press secretary jay carney confirming that an off site mail facility did receive a letter that had what preliminarily tested for trace amounts of the toxin ricin. it was addressed here to the white house, the president, and has gone on for further testing. it was one of two letters and then they found some ricin at a third -- at a facility and they don't -- they didn't tell us if that was actually from a third letter or whether it was just traces left over from some other possible contaminants. so bottom line what this means is there is a lot of investigative work still going on. no suspect identified publicly. no motive identified publicly. big question is this connected to the attacks in boston. so far the fbi saying there is no indication at this time that there is a connection, but obviously it is too early for them to rule it out either. so that possibility clearly remains open, but, again, they have not drawn the link either. so at this point it is just a whole lot of open questions. the big picture for the presiden
